Country: Denmark
Organization: International Federation of Red Cross And Red Crescent Societies
Registration deadline: 20 Apr 2016
Starting date: 24 May 2016
Ending date: 26 May 2016

Today, psychosocial support is widely offered in humanitarian operations and the results are promising.

Evidence informed findings from psychosocial interventions in the aftermath of major natural disasters and in ongoing social and health care programmes indicate that early and appropriate community-based psychosocial support can reduce stress and human suffering, and speed up the recovery process.

However there are insufficient standards and criteria for determining what works, how and why in different situations and contexts. Such information and knowledge is critical for learning and for identifying best practices of high quality psychosocial programming. It is critical for continuing to build the capacity of National Societies.

The PS centre has developed a framework to ensure a systematic approach for monitoring and evaluating psychosocial programmes in the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. The framework was developed in order to identify and ensure best practices throughout IFRC global psychosocial (PS) programmes, contributing to quality PS interventions and strengthen advocacy for PS programmes. The framework aims to support National Societies to design relevant M&E systems for PS programmes, to help in programme planning and development of PS strategies, and to mainstream global reporting of progress on PS programmes as they contribute to achieving the priorities of IFRC Strategy 2020.
